Fosters boosts education
21 December 2004

Fosters Food Fair has donated $100,000 towards the purchase of temporary classrooms for government schools.

Minister of Education Roy Bodden thanked the Foster group for its “very generous and timely donation.” The funds will go toward purchasing three modular classrooms, states a GIS press release.

Mr. Woody Foster explained that the group’s Christmas giveaways usually involve products such as microwaves and free groceries but this year Foster’s decided to do something different for the island because of the hurricane.

“We spoke to Mr. Bodden and he told us about the temporary classrooms coming in. We like to focus our donations on children and families, so decided that this year we would help out the schools. They are badly in need,” he said.

The minister said temporary classrooms are crucial to the education recovery process. They enable schools to continue to provide for all students, especially as numbers increase and while the final repairs are completed on permanent structures.

Twenty temporary classrooms have been ordered, and will be distributed amongst schools as needed. Due to the shipping backlog, the ministry has rented a barge to ensure they are delivered on time for their planned installation.
