Generator aid

Cayman Brac and Little Cayman residents who urgently need to borrow a generator, or who has one being shipped to them, are asked to do the following:

Call the Brac Command Centre on 925–6262 to request temporary use of a generator, or to say that one is on its way to you. Calls will be answered as quickly as possible.

Leave your name, number and address. Once a generator is arranged, or once it arrives, you will be contacted to collect it.

Residents are responsible for arranging their own gasoline and containers. Safety should always be maintained. Generators must not be kept indoors, and children must not operate, or be in contact with, generators.

Red Cross fund

The Cayman Islands Red Cross is launching a monetary appeal for the Sister Islands’ Hurricane Paloma Relief Response.

The funds will be used to provide emergency, rehabilitation and long term development needs for the residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Donations can be made directly to the Cayman Islands Red Cross or can be deposited at the Red Cross’ Emergency Funds account for the Sister Islands Relief at Butterfield Bank Sister Islands Relief account number: 02–201–035054/03)

For more information on how you can assist the Sister Islands mission contact the Red Cross at 949–6785 ext. 26.

Post suspended

The Cayman Islands Postal Service has suspended mail service to the Sister Islands for the remainder of the week.

Postmaster General Sheena Glasgow explained that this decision is based on a number of factors:

All available air and sea cargo space is being used for the transportation of emergency relief cargo.

The majority of post offices have been damaged in some way. In addition, all infrastructure services have not yet been restored.

At a minimum, secured buildings are required before re–opening post offices.

Postal staff on the Sister Islands need some time to address their personal living situations that are connected to damage from Paloma’s passing.

The situation will be reassessed for next week and CIPS will release further updates as needed.

No court

The Chief Magistrate advised that Cayman Brac Court scheduled for 20 – 21 November has been cancelled until further notice.

Check on elderly

Residents of the Sister Islands are being encouraged to check on their elderly relatives and neighbours who may require assistance in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Be sure to ask the elderly if they have phoned their family overseas. If they haven’t phoned, help them find a telephone, so they can make a quick call.
