Tropical Storm Bonnie picked up the pace overnight as it headed for south Florida, but it did not gain much strength in the overnight hours.

The tropical depression that had been meandering through the southern Bahamas all day Thursday turned into Tropical Storm Bonnie around 6.15 Eastern Daylight Time, according to NOAA.

The storm is the second named system in the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season had maximum sustained winds measured at 40 miles per hour and was moving north-west at a fairly quick pace of 18 miles per hour.

The system was expected to pose no threat to Cayman and most forecast models had it passing to the north of Cuba striking the southern tip of Florida by late morning to mid-day Friday.
