The Crown closed its case against the three men accused of murdering Omar Barton Samuels on the night of 4 July 2009 in the vicinity of McField Lane, George Town. The jury has heard that the shooting occurred minutes to 1am.

Counsel for Patrick Elbert McField and Osbourne Wilfred Douglas offered no evidence.

The third defendant, Brandon Leslie Ebanks, went into the witness box and told the court he had spent the evening at a friend’s house, going to buy food at Jah T’s (in the McField Lane area) around midnight; he went back to his friend’s house where his girlfriend picked him up around 12.30am.

He said they then parked in the lot across from Smith Cove before she took him home.

George Leonard Powell said Ebanks spent the evening at his house and Nikita Jackson told the court she picked him up around 12.30am, parked at Smith Cove because they were having an argument, and then took him home.

Attorney Nicholas Dixey read a statement signed by Leighton Rankine Jr. who said he went that Saturday night to McField Square. He was speaking to two men when Omar Samuels came along, spoke to them and pulled out a gun and put it to Rankine’s neck. Mr. Rankine gave his statement to police on Sunday 5 July 2009.

It is expected that the jury will hear addresses from the Prosecution and Defence beginning Friday.
