A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with two armed robberies that happened on consecutive days in George Town last month.

In the first case, the suspect is accused of entering the Tortuga liquor store at the intersection of Boilers Road and South Church Street just before closing time on 17 August. The man threatened staff with what appeared to be a firearm before making off with hundreds of dollars in cash, according to store owner Robert Hamaty.

The following night, 18 August 2010, police said the same man entered the Esso service station on Shedden Road and Thomas Russell Way at 10.25 p.m. Police said he threatened staff with what appeared to be a firearm and made off with cash.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in either of the incidents.

The man has been charged with two counts of possession of an imitation firearm with intent, two counts of robbery and one count of possession of an offensive weapon. His name will be released when he appears is court later today (Thursday).
