Several construction workers are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Layoff notices were handed out to nearly 100 men working at the new John Gray high school site on Friday, 18 September.

Officials for general contractor Tom Jones International and several subcontractors say they were forced to issue seven day layoff notices to workers after government failed to make the require payment deadline.

The stop work warning presented to government officials states by Tom Jones representatives states all work will stop at the site Friday, 25 September unless payment is received.

Minister of Education Rolston Anglin says he is aware of the situation and is confident Tom Jones International will get paid.

Make sure you grab Friday’s edition of the Cayman Compass for the latest developments on the situation.
