CITA Objectives

The Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s role is to represent the private sector tourism partners in the Cayman Islands.  Part of their mandate is to serve the membership by promoting the businesses and liaising with the sections of Government dedicated to tourism, to advise on and implement destination promotions, along with contributing to marketing initiatives. Given the state of the economy it has been critical for the tourism industry to make adjustments to the way it operates, including reducing the cost of doing business and actively pursuing new initiatives and programmes to drive business to the Cayman Islands, while continuing to maintain the service excellence.

In the first three months of 2010 there were 87, 841 visitor arrivals by air, an 8.3 per cent increase over 2009 (YTD). This statistic shows a sign of consumer confidence returning; however, the total figures still fall short of industry targets. In contrast to air arrivals, cruise ship arrivals have seen a slight increase of 1.3 per cent over 2009 in arrivals with a total of 472,036 arrivals in the first three months of 2010.

CITA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 22 April 2010 where the new Board of Directors are elected. This also marks the time where the CITA Board and Executive take the time to reflect on what has been accomplished for the industry and identify any highlights, ongoing challenges and priorities to create awareness, looking at both the current climate locally and at the competitors in the region.
