Main Story
2011 Year in Review
We are all concerned about the state of the world economy and how we can better protect ourselves and families from a challenging economy. There are many opinions about how best to do this but the Chamber believes that talent and workforce development is a key component to a resilient economy.
One of the ways that the Chamber seeks to create bridges between private and public sector employers, training providers and potential recruits is through our Careers, Education, Training & Jobs Expo which is going into its 13th year.
This year we have moved the event to the University College of the Cayman Islands for a one day event on Friday, February 3 which will run from 10am until 7pm. If you are currently unemployed or looking for career advancement or educational opportunities you cannot afford to miss it.
It is an ideal time for you to meet and question potential employers who will be there to give you first-hand information and advice on how to be a successful candidate for employment within their company.
If you don’t have the qualifications for a particular industry, ask about any available scholarship or training opportunities. Several companies exhibit specifically at the Careers Expo to promote their available scholarship opportunities to young people.
This is a great way to get access to some of the top employers on the Island – and find out everything you need to know all in one place. Parents with school leavers may wish to visit the expo with their children and discuss career options or get advice on beginning a career and how best to apply.
We also encourage those who are currently employed but may be considering a career change. This is a great opportunity to question the experts in a particular industry that you may wish to know more about.
See first-hand how potential employers present themselves and their company, and instead of the weeks of appointment making and interviews you can quickly connect with the industry and businesses that you are most attracted to. Use this opportunity to learn how to make yourself a more desirable employee and how you can stand out from the crowd.
Talent has emerged as key to any innovation based economy.
The presence of a large pool of highly skilled workers is a powerful lure for businesses and can be directly linked to higher incomes all over the world. We are no different here in the Cayman Islands and through our Careers, Education, Training & Jobs Expo and other Chamber initiated programmes such as Mentoring Cayman, Leadership Cayman, Business Coaching Cayman, HR Care and of course our Professional Development & Training Centre, we hope to be the catalyst to a more educated and competitive employment market.
