Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe we’re now more than three weeks into 2012. We have already begun our strategic agenda for the year and we are looking forward to an energetic and successful 12 months under the new leadership of President David Kirkaldy.
This month (April) we saw 1500 volunteers cleaning-up our roadsides and beaches. Every one of these wonderful people saw the value of pitching in and doing something for the greater good.

In this issue of the CHAMBER magazine I think you’ll notice some differences. We’ve changed our shape a little, our paper stock is more of a matt finish, our column inches have changed, we have updated our format on some of our key items, even our font has changed and we’ve dropped the THE from the magazine title!
Forty five years ago, 10 Caymanians decided that the time had come to
establish an organisation that would represent the views of the business
community and speak with one voice.
Registered voters go to the polls this month to elect 15 of the 43
candidates in the six electoral districts who will serve in the
Legislative Assembly for the next four years.
Pulitzer Prize winning author and journalist Thomas Friedman in his
recent book, “Hot, Flat and Crowded” focuses on five key problems that
are intensifying in the world. They are: the growing demand for ever
scarcer energy supplies and natural resources;
“When planning for a year, plant corn. When planning for a decade,
plant trees. When planning for life, train and educate people.” – Chinese proverb
IBM hosted a Smarter Cities conference in New York City in early
October. Mr. Paul Gallagher, IBM’s local representative, kindly invited
me to attend (thanks, Paul!).
