Anguilla’s blue-print for tourism
TOPIC: Travel
August 4, 2010

Main Story:
Around the world

Anguilla’s chief minister, Hubert Hughes, recently outlined his country’s new 10-year Sustainable Tourism Master Plan, which includes a plan to diversify its product to attract visitors all year round, and not just in the traditionally busy winter months.

Hughes said that the Master Plan will serve as the blueprint for Anguilla’s tourism development: a formal, long-term plan, which includes a new tourist board, that the government will use as a reference for informed decision-making related to our tourism planning.

Other parts of the plan include a tourism assessment unit which will deal with training needs for the industry, while the country also hopes to encourage more boat racing “the island’s national sport” according to Hughes.

Indigenous sites will be preserved and form part of the island’s heritage tourism component and ferry access to St Maarten will be improved.
