Many of you will know about, or have experience of, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It has been used for more than sixty years to help people become more satisfied and successful in their careers. The five driver groups for the Future of Cayman economic development initiative are working to implement the 16 main objectives. More than 100 committed volunteers are now meeting regularly, gathering information and developing strategies. One of the most difficult jobs for a manager is dealing with poor employee performance. Managers will often try to defer or altogether avoid addressing underperformance of an employee; however the costs of inaction can be great. A poorly performing employee can cost the company in terms of low productivity, customer dissatisfaction and potential loss of customers, all of which can lead to reduced profits. The importance of transparency in business Caymanians should be allowed to appeal permit decisions, for a nominal fee sufficient to preclude frivolous appeals. For the past 50 years, Gallup has conducted over 20,000 in-depth interviews with senior leaders, studied more than 1 million work teams and conducted even more Gallup polls on the subject of the worlds most admired leaders. From a human resources perspective, firms of excellence look for ways to help keep their employees current and to improve their human capital, whether in times of expansion or when faced with selective retention. After a turbulent 2010, with corporate downsizing, layoffs and
imposed hiring freezes, the island has been left with increased
competition in the job market, leaving employers with a much wider
selection of qualified candidates to choose from than in the past. Big Four professional services organisation PricewaterhouseCoopers
has recently refreshed its branding in order to strengthen and modernise
how it represents its worldwide network. The Journal reports. Three distinct tracks are emerging for
accountants in the Cayman Islands employment market. What caused these tracks
to emerge and where they are currently headed is a peek into the future of the
Cayman Islands’ economy As the work force continues to shrink
due to the downturn in the economy with work permits reducing in their
thousands, there has never been a more vital time for Cayman’s employers to
showcase their businesses in a positive light in a bid to attract and retain
the best employees available, both locally and from overseas. CLT International recently announced the creation of a new Advanced
Certificate in Fund Administration. Designed for new entrants into fund
administration, the Advanced Certificate provides introductory knowledge
and practical skills training. According to the Gallup Organisation employee engagement is defined as
“an employee’s involvement with, commitment to, and satisfaction with
work”. Employee engagement has also been more generally described as
“passion for work”. In the July article I gave a brief sketch of what the Myers-Briggs Type
Indicator test is and to some extent what it is not. In this second
piece I intend to look in more detail at some of the practical uses to
which knowledge of type, your own and of others, can be put. Anyone who has been involved in a management course or further
education programme will have seen and possibly taken any number of
aptitude or psychometric tests. For example, Belbin’s Team Inventory,
which seeks to identify your role within a team or Strengthfinder.20,
which identifies an individual’s strengths. Recruitment firm CML was awarded Top Employer of the Year in the small
business category, at the top employer awards, held earlier this year
and organised by the Cayman Islands Society for Human Resource
Professionals. The Journal speaks with employees at the firm to
