1 The Nassau grouper, Epinephelus striatus, is an important top-level predator on coral reefs. Its diet mainly consists of fishes and crabs. Since Nassau grouper used to be quite abundant in some areas, their decline could impact the reef community.
2 The longest life span reported for a fish is the 205 years reported for the rougheye rockfish, Sebastes aleutianus, found offshore in the North Pacific at depths between 80 and 3000 feet.

4 The fastest fish is the Indo-Pacific Sailfish, Istiophorus platypterus. It has been clocked in excess of 110 km/h (68 mph) over short periods. This fish grows to over 3.4m in total length and 100kg in weight.
5 Chilean seabass, Dissostichus eleginoides, are slow-growing fish that breed late in life, which makes them inherently susceptible to overfishing. This vulnerability combined with the nature of the fishery’s bycatch and management ineffectiveness leads to an overall seafood recommendation of “Avoid.”
