With year-round warm weather, it is always the season for ice cream in Cayman.

The newest Haagen Dazs location at Camana Bay is a great place to stop in when you are looking for a Christmas shopping break, a refreshing cool down after a trip up the newly-opened Observation Tower, or just a delicious after-movie snack.

Another incentive to keep coming back is the frequent shopper card. Buy nine double scoops, get the tenth free.

Although ice cream is always popular, it certainly does not gift wrap well, so rather give a Häagen Dazs gift certificate.

Bonnie Willkom of Häagen Dazs says that to create the perfect ice cream, the recipe calls for only four base ingredients: fresh cream, skimmed milk, egg yolk and sugar.

There are no artificial stabilisers or emulsifiers in Häagen-Dazs ice cream and every batch has to pass over 200 quality checks.

“The result is an ice cream that is richer in taste and creamier in body which therefore melts more slowly in the mouth,” she says.

“The company also goes on a worldwide search for ingredients for instance Madagascar for vanilla beans, India for mangoes and of course Belgium for rich, dark chocolate.”

While many flavours can be found at the island’s supermarkets, others are only available in the stores – a great excuse to pop in for a hand-packed pint or two.

There are always new flavours to tantalise the taste buds. Cappuccino caramel truffle features rich coffee ice cream combined with chocolate truffles and a delicate caramel swirl.

Mango and passion fruit pairs mango ice cream with a swirl of passion fruit purée, while raspberry meringue features raspberry sorbet mixed with vanilla ice cream and pieces of meringue.

Another great flavour for the holidays and a real Cayman favourite is rum raisin, also only available at Häagen Dazs shops.

Even if ice cream isn’t quite your thing, there’s always the chance to try out the sorbet sippers and cappuccinos as well.   WH
