An artful Christmas gift
TOPIC: Lifestyles
December 1, 2009

Art can be an excellent Christmas gift, especially when it captures something of Cayman.

Noted local artist John Broad has created two prints ideal for Christmas gifts, Cayman Nostalgia and Christmas Beach House.

Cayman Nostalgia is a tribute to past memories of the Island, a collage of memorabilia conjuring up the flavours of the past. Flora and fauna are mixed with handwritten envelopes from the 1930s and 1940s. Pattern tiles are laid alongside pen and ink drawings of old churches and family homes, some now long gone. Traditional thatch patterns are mixed with forgotten sail knots and pulleys, with John including some colourful images from his sketchbook, finishing off with contemporary photographs capturing the romance of the past at that time of year when families look back with fond nostalgia
Christmas Beach House is a vibrant print from an original painting by John.

It is done in the pointillist style using a grid pattern, and exudes the feeling of the season’s goodwill and cheer. The house sits on the beach by the edge of the Caribbean sea, complete with palm trees and sailboat.

Both prints are high quality giclée on canvas or paper size 16” x 20” at CI$150 for The Beach House and CI$175 for Cayman Nostalgia. The prints can be seen at Silhouette Ladies Fashion Boutique in Treasure Island.   WH
