Sunday brunch has become a weekend tradition in Cayman.
7 Restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is offering Cayman residents and its resort guests something new to enjoy: a champagne breakfast experience on Saturdays.
Offering an alternative to the Sunday brunch, the restaurant hosts a full champagne breakfast from 7am to 12pm on Saturdays at the cost of $30 per person plus gratuities, which includes unlimited sparkling wine, served between 10am and 12pm.
It might help to think of the breakfast as a brunch however, in order to ensure you have left enough room to sample all of the delights on offer.
Something sweet
It’s easy to start out light, with an array of fresh fruit and juices to choose from. The juice selection is extensive – start out with a classic, freshly-squeezed orange juice and then expand your taste horizons with samples of its cantaloupe juice or honeydew juice, or even a strawberry-banana smoothie.
Complement the fruit selection with a few freshly-baked pastries, from banana-nut and chocolate muffins to miniature pain au chocolats to perhaps the pastry section’s pièce de resistance: a berry crumble that finds the perfect balance of tart and sweet.
Something savoury
For those with less of a sweet tooth, there are plenty of savoury delights on offer as well that incorporate Caribbean and international flavours, from jerked Yukon potatoes and caramelised plantains to the always-popular eggs Benedict.
As you like it
If you prefer personalising your breakfast, a chef is on hand to cook up a fresh Belgian waffle or omelette according to your instructions. The omelette station offers such a wide variety of fillings that you may trouble deciding what to include, while the Belgian waffle station offers toppings that include a freshly made apple, blueberry and maple compote, which also tastes delightful atop the silver dollar pancakes or French toast on offer.
To complement a main course, an array of cold cuts, cheeses and smoked salmon are available. For those who prefer a quick and easy breakfast, cereals, oatmeal, bagels, toast and a range of marmalades and toppings are available as well.
Sparkling Saturdays
“The rationale for the Saturday breakfast was really to add something special for our local guests,” says Melissa Ladley, director of public relations at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. “We’ve noticed that many like to come in and enjoy a later, leisurely breakfast.”
Many residents have been taking advantage of the hotel’s discounted Residents Package on Friday nights, so the hotel “thought it would be great value add to include sparkling wine on the buffet on Saturday mornings and extend the breakfast for an hour until 12pm,” Melissa says.
The Residents’ Package includes accommodations, breakfast for two, Silver Dollars to spend at Silver Rain Spa and all fees for $279. Although the package is valid until 19 December, the Saturday morning breakfast experience, Melissa says, “is here to stay.” WH
