Mardi Gras at Kaibo has become an institution over the last decade. This year will feature the 11th edition of the event and it promises to be every bit as decadent as the years that have gone before.
The event takes place on Ash Wednesday, 17 February, making it a day later than Fat Tuesday in the rest of the world. However, the festivities are certainly not diminished one bit.
Ferries run from Safehaven to Kaibo all day, with the last scheduled to leave Kaibo at 2am. This provides an easy option for those who would like to avoid the roads in the wake of the festivities.
All the regular trimmings of Mardi Gras will be there – music, dancing and the ubiquitous beads.
Off to see the wizardThe theme for this year is ‘Wicked! A Magical Mardi Gras in Oz’ and promises to bring a touch of magic to Kaibo.
Bands and DJs will ply their trade on the main stage, keeping the crowd entertained.
VIP room
The Emerald City VIP room upstairs will be the place to be, playing host to the famous balcony party.
Tickets, available for $100, include a set lunch, served from 12pm to 3pm, a goodie bag and limited edition t-shirt. Then there are the beads – over a ton of them – to throw out to the waiting crowds below.
Champagne, mojitos and mudslides
An air-conditioned champagne tent will serve bubbly in chilled-out comfort. The Tin Man’s mojito bar will be serving up the mojitos to the masses, while the Lion’s Courage mudslide tent will take care of the famous Kaibo mudslides, as well as other drinks.
The Scarecrow’s straw beach shack offers a full bar right on the beach, while Kaibo’s main bar also gets a makeover, with an extended bar top to serve the masses quickly.
Of course, Kaibo’s Caribbean beach cuisine will also be available at the food cabana to help fuel the party late into the night. WH
