Situated right on the George Town waterfront, just a couple of steps from the cruise pier, Margaritaville is often the first port of call for visitors to Grand Cayman.
Home to the Cheeseburger in Paradise, with Jimmy Buffet and Caribbean classics on the speakers, a rooftop pool deck and even a swim-up bar, it is the perfect spot for an introduction to local Cayman beer.
This explains why Margaritaville was anxious to be part of the Cayman Islands Brewery’s Gold Member programme.
According to Chris Redlund, manager at Margaritaville, the programme was very important to the staff.
“It helps them know the history of the local beer. To help ensure that they know that even though Caybrew is brewed on a small Caribbean island it still holds itself to the same standards as the biggest beers stateside and in Europe.”
The staff were certainly impressed by what they saw during their brewery tour.
“The staff were talking about it for two days after. They were blown away by their tour of the facility – the image that people have is that it’s a small island and small brewery. They were blown away by what Caybrew has pulled off and what they’re doing,” says Chris.
The importance of pouring the perfect pint is certainly not lost on Chris and his staff either.
“A lot of why people will order it is from the visual standpoint as well as the different taste and if you don’t pour it right it’s not going to look the same or taste the same,” he says.
As one of the first establishments to serve Ironshore Bock, the new dark beer from the brewery, Chris has found the response very positive.
“Considering that there’s nothing in the restaurant that says we carry Ironshore Bock, it’s strictly by word of mouth, it’s doing very well. It’s among the Top 10 of my beer sales. It is very popular with the Canadian and European customers, who want their darker, Bass-style type of beer,” he says. WH
