Stop in for a bite at the Pirate's Den

Situated in Galleria Plaza on West Bay Road, Pirate’s Den is not the den of iniquity the name might have one believe.

In fact, the venue can deliver food making a visit well worth it, even for those who might not normally frequent a sports bar.

Patrons can choose to dine in the dining room or in the sports bar, with food being served either side.

The dining room offers a more restaurant-like feel, while  the sports bar area is ideal for sports fans who want to watch the big game on one of the many screens, or of course for those with a special interest in the bar. The separation between the restaurant area and the bar also makes it a very suitable family venue.

The menu includes a number of pub classics like chicken wings (rumoured to be among the best on the Island) and burgers. However, it also includes meatloaf and a number of other home-style options.

I was told that the barbecue pork ribs were certainly worth sampling and was certainly not disappointed. With a solid serving of ribs accompanied by beans and mashed potatoes, it certainly provided a hearty meal. The meat fell from the bone, and was not overpowered by the sauce either, providing for very satisfying dining indeed.

My colleague who accompanied me to dinner opted for the grilled mahi-mahi, and loved it so much that even when he offered me a taste I had to decline because of the pleading in his eyes.

Although I passed on dessert, my colleague opted for an apple cobbler, which was wolfed down to audible grunts of enjoyment.

In somewhat of a departure for a sports bar, PDs also offers free Internet service. This is especially useful for those new to the Island and with the good food and good company, PDs could quickly become a home away from home.  WH
