Trevor’s Top Two
Dive Tips
Trevor Amodeo’s career now could not be more different from the one he left behind in Canada. For nearly the first half of his life his focus was on cold and ice, yet these days he is surrounded by sunlight and warm water.
Trevor was born in Toronto, and grew up in the east end of the city. After leaving school he joined an industry very familiar to all Canucks – the world of hockey. For 10 years he was chief engineer and operations manager of Ice Sports, which put him charge of ice rink maintenance, Zambonis and basically anything that kept facilities in top notch condition.
Even when he left this particular company, Trevor stuck with refrigeration as a trade, using his years of experience as a mechanic in the field. By the time he was 36 years old, you’d figure that he’d settled into his path for the rest of his working life, but that’s where you’d be wrong. He hated his job and so he sat down to take a hard look at what he wanted to do going forward. It was time to make a fresh start. He moved to the Cayman Islands in August 2008, and took his first diving course. It wasn’t anything that had particularly appealed to him, but he was in the Caribbean so he thought he might as well give it a try.
That open water certification was all it took for him to realise what he’d been missing all these years. By April 2009 Trevor was an instructor and his whole outlook on what it meant to work for a living changed forever. He joined the staff at Sunset Divers, and is now happily passing on his revelation to tourists and residents who are discovering the wonders of diving on a weekly basis. He is training to become a boat captain and now looks forward to that alarm every morning instead of dreading it. This is it for him – definitely diving for the future and beyond.
Make sure you stop by Sunset Divers with their fabulous location overlooking the sea, and see why this popular company has been around for so many years. Ask for Trevor when you sign up and who knows, maybe you’ll be leaving your desk job and joining the staff at a dive shop here or elsewhere in the world to gain a whole new perspective on living life to the fullest!
