Fashion and music are essential parts of everyone’s life. You pick clothes to wear to work; you pick a radio station or CD to listen to on your way into the office.

In both these fields, young Caymanians are creating a place for themselves, with fashion and music that celebrate and promote the Caribbean and Caymanian lifestyle.

On 24 April, ThE iZ music group and One Tree Four Five fashions will come together to showcase just what Cayman artists are capable of.

The evening will feature the launch of ThE iZ’s debut CD, The Beach Club, as well as the debut of their new video Mind Trip.

Combine with this a sneak peek at One Tree Four Five’s new 2010 fashions as well as invited celebrity guests including Selita Ebanks, Camille McDonald (America’s Next Top Model) and Young Caymanian Leadership Award winner Colin Anglin and you a winning recipe.

The evening will be hosted by Dane Ramoon and Camille McDonald.

ThE iZ is composed of Stephan Cotterell, Lonney McField and Jason Gilbert. The group write, produce and perform their own songs, creating material that is accessible to a wide audience.
“We started working as producers and then somebody came with the idea for us to do an album,” says Stephan.

Although it has taken a lot of hard work, the group hope to shop the completed album in the USA in order to gain wide distribution.

The aim of the evening is to do more than just promoting the music of ThE iZ and the fashion of One Tree Four Five. Luigi Moxam of One Tree Four Five hopes the show will serve to show Cayman’s youth what is possible if you just put your mind to it and work hard.

“We all have had the option to fall off and get caught up in some of the foolishness going on right now,” says Luigi.

However, Luigi decided to take a risk and create something, going on to establish One Tree Four Five.

“A lot of people out there are talented, but they don’t feel they have the permission to go out there and take risks to pursue a career in creative arts. You have to take a calculated risk,” he says.

Although many budding artists look and see only the glamour, Stephan is quick to point out that it takes a lot of hard work.

“I knew what I wanted to do so I stuck with it and I did it. If you don’t have the determination for it, if you don’t have the passion for it, you’re going nowhere with it,” says Stephan.

Luigi believes it is all about dreaming big, and then working hard for it.

“It’s a mentality – just because you’re from here doesn’t mean you can’t do big things. Small Island doing big things!

We have the opportunity to do that,” says Luigi.

The launch party will take place on 24 April at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites, starting at 5.30pm with a sunset reception and building up to the Mind Trip video debut at 9pm, followed by the One Tree Four Five fashion show and at 10pm the performance and debut of ThE iZ’s new album The Beach Club.

The evening will also feature guest artist, guest designers and giveaways.
