Tucked away in a quiet corner of Governors Square, the unassuming entrance of Arteccentrix Art Gallery hides a sanctuary for the lover of fine art.
Under the guidance of renowned local artist Nickola McCoy-Snell, the gallery is currently the only pure art gallery on the Island.
The aim with the gallery is to create a museum-like atmosphere – no selling occurs on the gallery floor, which makes it much easier for people to come in and browse the gallery.
Nickola feels the gallery has a duty to educate the community as well, which is why she does not shy away from presenting shows that are purely abstract in nature, as with the recent solo show by Al Ebanks, the first solo show the gallery has hosted.
From fine art photography exhibitions to sculpture exhibitions, the gallery does not limit the medium; however, it has to be fine art.
The entire gallery is designed around displaying the art to the greatest possible effect.
The gallery also offers quality art prints on canvas or paper. This is the domain of Nickola’s husband, Morris Snell. However, the prints are not displayed in the gallery – only original works of art make it onto the walls.
There are other unique innovations that form part of the gallery’s menu of services.
Due to the flexibility of the venue, Nickola can offer private showings of as yet unseen work by the artists the gallery represents, whether for companies or private collectors who want something truly unique. The gallery also offers a fine art for rent service. Companies can rent original pieces of art for a set period of time, whether to decorate their offices for a special occasion, or even to show off a multi-million dollar mansion to greater effect when it goes on the market.
“You can have original art on your walls for a fraction of the price of buying it outright,” says Nickola.
The list of artists featured by the gallery is extensive and includes many of the leading names in Cayman art circles, including the likes of Al Ebanks, Gordon Solomon, Chris Christian, Randy Chollette, Greg Lipton, John Broad, Steve Joscelyn, Lennon Christian, S.M Brown, Gumba, Horacio Esteban, Dale Evers, Avril Ward, Nickola McCoy, Sue Howe, Leigh Pawling, Renate Seffer, Sue Widmer, Christel Ibsen, Bunnie Holmes and Mindy Joseph.
