Summer may traditionally be a quiet time for the tourism market, but the Department of Tourism is planning to make this summer something special. The Cayman Summer Splash is back and from 15 May to 6 September, kids stay, play and eat free. Specials for visitors include a fifth night free when booking a minimum five night stay, a free trip to Stingray City, while kids will receive free admission to some of Cayman’s most popular attractions as well as free meals at participating restaurants. There are also great deals on watersports and diving for kids and teens.

Yet for many, the highlight will be attending Sea School with SpongeBob SquarePants. The experience is open to kids from 5 to 11 years old and will take place aboard the Atlantis Seaworld Observatory. Every Monday and Friday between 4 June and 3 September, between 1pm and 2pm, kids will learn more about the colourful marine life that can be found in Cayman’s crystal clear waters and how they can help protect the environment. Sights along the way will include shipwrecks and reefs where divers will feed hundreds of fish. Once back on dry land the children get a chance to meet SpongeBob and become a ‘Protector of the Environment’.

Local residents can also enjoy the Cayman Sea School with SpongeBob SquarePants. It is a wonderful and free opportunity for the kids to learn about the marine environment and how they can preserve it.

Pre-registration for Cayman Sea School is encouraged as space is limited. Interested families can contact the Department of Tourism via ciseaschool@caymanislands.ky or 949-0623.

For more SpongeBob, families can see specially selected episodes of SpongeBob on the big screen at Hollywood Theatres in Camana Bay on Saturday afternoons. Best of all, these events are all free of charge to Summer Splash participants.

Participating children also receive free admission on the Jolly Roger and at Dolphin Discovery or Dolphin Cove when accompanied by a paying adult.

Each child will also receive a special SpongeBob punch card, which needs to be punched when participants visit the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, Pedro St. James and Boatswain’s Beach. Once all three have been punched, the child can receive a beanie baby.

For the slightly older set, kids and teens from 10 to 17 dive for half price and get two for one Discover Scuba Diving courses or Junior Open Water Certification along with free rental gear for ages 12 to 17 with participating businesses.

Parents must accompany children on all Sea School activities. To purchase Cayman Summer Splash specials, visit caymansummersplash.com.   WH
