The creator of James Bond, author Ian Flemming, owned an estate in Jamaica, which goes a long way to explaining his fondness for the Caribbean and the subsequent appearance of the region in the films based on his novels.
For many, the ultimate lifestyle would be that of fictional secret agent James Bond. Glamour, danger and international travel combine in a heady mix that few can ever hope to experience.
However, with What’s Hot, British Airways, Smirnoff, and Longitude Travel Services, you can get a rare taste of the James Bond lifestyle.
Hop on a British Airways flight from Grand Cayman to Nassau in the Bahamas. From there you will travel to the world famous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island for four fun filled nights.
The Bahamas have featured in a number of Bond films over the years, from 1965’s Thunderball with Sean Connery, to 1989’s Licence to Kill with Timothy Dalton or most recently 2006’s Casino Royale with Daniel Craig.
With four nights all inclusive, you can relax in the ocean, or pay a visit to the Atlantis Casino where scenes from Casino Royale were shot. Of course you might not share Bond’s luck at the tables, but you can share his drink, with a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred, courtesy of Smirnoff vodka.
We’ve thought of everything except for the special spy gadgets and the Aston Martin.
Not in the mood to try your luck at the tables? Visit some of the marine habitats in Atlantis, including the predator lagoon, which seems like the perfect location for an elaborate Bond baddy scene, with great hammerhead sharks and blacknose sharks in attendance. No mutant, ill-tempered seabass though.
The Mayan Temple shark lagoon provides an even greater thrill, with an exhilarating ride on an inner tube taking you right through the sharks’ environment in a clear underwater pipe. Yet another close shave for Bond as he makes his daring escape from the villain’s lair.
After all this, a spot of dinner may well be in order. From cafes and casual dining to a selection of fine dining restaurants, remember to suit up. You might not have a licence to kill like 007, but you can still dress to kill.
After four nights in Atlantis, you get to make your escape to yet another exotic location. An island paradise, home to magnificent beaches and recognised as one of the top off-shore finance sectors in the world, where you continue your mission... oh, wait, that’s just your flight back home to Cayman.
