Over his 15 years in the music business, DJ Lin has become one of Cayman’s most loved and versatile disc jockies, catering to crowds of all ages.
Linbern Eden, as he is known to family and close friends, got his first set of CD players, speakers and headphones at the tender age of 13. These were bought for the young enthusiast by his mother as a Christmas gift, which she worked overtime to secure.
From this initial musical baptism, the aspiring DJ provided the entertainment for small house parties and various events. His passion for music and entertaining grew as a result of these experiences and in the late 90s he formed a DJ group with his best friend Keith Tibbetts called Coalition Sound.
“We thought it was fitting because the word coalition means to come together for a certain cause and that cause was for the love of music and the sheer joy of entertaining,” says DJ Lin.
During the early years of Coalition Sound the group played at nightclubs of the time such as the Planet, Sharkey’s and Rum Heads. But it was in late 2001 when the young DJ and his sound got their break at one of Cayman’s premier night clubs, The Next Level.
Every Wednesday night he catered to a consistent energetic crowd of upwards of 300 patrons, spinning the best hip hop, dancehall, R&B and an array of unique dub-plates and remixes. The night became known as a sure bet for a good time every single week.
He has gone on to spin music at the Next Level, now Jet nightclub for the past eight years, winning the coveted prestige award for sound system of the year and DJ of the year in 2005, courtesy of a special online poll voted on by fans.
In July 2010, DJ Lin entered a year-to-year sound clash put on by Champion Promotions called The One in which he and Scatta Hype competed against three other sound systems, including veteran Super C. As the winners of the competition, DJ Lin and Scatta Hype picked up the grand prize - a trip to Jamaica to compete against other sound systems from all over the world.
As a first time competitor at the event with only three weeks of preparation, DJ Lin’s Coalition Sound was noted as one of the top sounds as they wowed the audience and promoters with jaw dropping specials that rocked the 8,000 plus crowd at the Old Coal Wharf in Port Royal, Jamaica.
You can catch DJ Lin spinning at Allure every Wednesday night from 10pm till 3am and at Limestone Ironshore every Saturday night from 8 til midnight. His Chain Reaction Show can also be heard every Friday during the prime time drive from 5pm to 7pm on Hot 104.1FM. WH
