Tapping into Oktoberfest
Planning your own Oktoberfest party? Break away from just preparing a couple of Bratwurst with some more authentic Bavarian recipes to accompany the main dish of the day – the beer.
Obatzda
A Bavarian cheese spread, this is a traditional part of the Oktoberfest menu.
Ingredients:1 large or two smaller soft Camembert cheeses (around 300g)
1 small or medium onion (red or white)
½ bundle chives
30g soft butter
3-4 tablespoons beer
1 tablespoon paprika powder
Salt to taste
Preparation:1) Finely chop the onion and chives
2) Squash the Camembert with a fork and mix
in the butter, beer, onion and chives.
Serve with pretzels or bread and, of course,
a beer
Hendl
The most popular food at Oktoberfest is rotisserie chicken and fortunately the recipe is quite simple.

30g paprika
1 bunch fresh parsley
2 ½ teaspoons salt
A pinch of ground black pepper
Preparation:1) Preheat oven to 195 Celsius/380 Fahrenheit

3) Chop parsley and mix with some of the butter
4) Stuff chicken with parsley
5) Rub the rest of the butter into the chicken
6) Place chicken breast side up on roasting tray
7) Cook for approximately 75 minutes, basting every 15 minutes with fat from the tray
