For more than 10 years DJ Flex has been churning out tunes and spreading good vibes to audiences all over the Cayman Islands.

The party starter says his first steps into the world of entertainment and music came when he was 16 and tried installing speakers in his uncle’s car, but he began to really take things seriously after getting into an extremely serious motor vehicle accident. It was at this time that he decided to change his life and get out of trouble and be more conscious of the direction in which he wanted to go.

He began an intense practice regiment and developed over time, “moving from strength to strength and becoming very interested in different audiences and how to approach each.”

“Love for music in general; Bob Marley, Beres Hammond and Garnett Silk have all contributed to the person and DJ that I am today. I play everything though and growing up in Cayman meant that you had to be versatile to cater to the many cultures that live here,” he says.

DJ Flex says that he loves decent reggae music and not “now-a-days reggae”. “Teach me something,” he exclaims.

Some of the places DJ Flex has been seen and heard spinning his arsenal of tunes are The Roof Top - where he is the resident DJ - the Ritz-Carlton, the Westin Casuarina, Pappagallo, Grand Old House, Margaritaville and a slew of night clubs and bars across Grand Cayman.

“I want to show that you can be a Disc Jockey in this day and age and still represent music that is clean. All you have to do is live right and express yourself through positive music; being able to appreciate all types of people is also a plus,” explains DJ Flex.
He says one of the things that he continues to marvel at in the world of DJ’ing is the technology that is used by those in the field.

“When I started out 12 years ago, I was mixing with a tape deck and a CD walk-man and people would have to back around crates of records to the various shows. Now everything is on computers and all of the night’s music can be accessed from a single device,” the DJ recalls.

He jokes that he chose the name Flex because of the fact that he considered himself to be flexible in the types of music and styles that he could offer his audiences.

“When I started using the name Flex, people would have all kind of reactions, some of them good and some bad, while some people even made fun of the whole thing, but now I am known as DJ Flex by mostly everyone and much of my family call me Flex now. It has been quite a journey.”

DJ Flex can be reached at 926-1484 or flex@candw.ky for bookings.
