The Far East meets the Western Caribbean in the spicy, fragrant offerings of Karma Pan Asian Restaurant & Lounge, a relative newcomer to the scene in Grand Cayman, and will be taking part in Taste of Cayman for the first time during Culinary Month.
The Chef blends the familiar taste of chilli, ginger and lemongrass with somewhat uncommon flavors of Japanese seven spice and Sambai Olek. These flavours stimulate the senses and evoke “essence of place.”
Samples at the restaurant’s Taste of Cayman booth will most likely feature a mixture of Japanese, Thai, South Korean and Vietnamese influences, and are sure to include grilled meat or fish, and possibly barbecue, according to Executive Chef Aaron Molloy.
The popular chef, who has presented for other restaurants in previous Culinary Month events, will represent Karma for the first time, and he’s excited about what attendees will discover.
“I think it’s fantastic,” he says of the event. “Anything that brings tourists and restaurants together is a great idea.”
General Manager Morris B. Wilkes agrees, and is leaving the sampling menu strictly up to Chef Aaron. He whole-heartedly endorses the fusion of Vietnamese, Korean and other Asian influences - “We wanted to add flavors and tastes that were somewhat uncommon to have at one restaurant.”
In addition to its balance of spicy, salty, sweet and sour, as promoted on the restaurant’s website, Karma is also proud to point out that it supports sustainable fishing practices and local farmers, seeing to it that the restaurant benefits the wider community as well.
