It would make sense to think that gender has nothing to do with fishing.
Nevertheless it remains open for debate whether biological forces had any bearing on Justin Ebanks’ recent catch. The North Side native reeled in a 46-pound wahoo during the recent Barcadere Classic fishing tournament. Joining him aboard the Blue Moon boat were Edward Azan and fellow North Sider Douglas Ebanks. The crew also had a 21.4lb dolphin and for their efforts they took home CI$2000 in prize money (not to mention a few dollars more with the sale of the fish).
Justin states he caught the wahoo because the fish was attracted to him.
“We caught them in East End, in an area called the backyard. Every fish I’ve ever caught in a tournament has been from there. I used an 80lb test for the wahoo while high-speed trolling. The high-speed trolling caught lots of wahoo. We had five on the Saturday of the tournament, all between 25 to 40lbs.
“What happened was I took a magic marker and put the word Justin on the lures. The fish were female so I guess they were attracted to me and came to the hooks. Seriously though, we used our own little tricks that we’ve done for years.”
