April will be a month of celebrations at
Camana Bay. From Easter to Earth Day to the celebration of the royal wedding
there will be something for everyone
Easter
On 23 April the Town Centre will host
its annual Easter Egg Hunt, with the East Bunny hiding coloured eggs throughout
the Town Centre of Camana Bay from 10am. There will be different areas for
different age groups, which should make it easier for the younger children to
find their fair share of the spoils as well. Of course there will be more than
merely the eggs, with a bouncy castle, a craft area and a barbeque.
One of the highlights of the day will be
a sing along stage on The Crescent, hosted by Bona Fide. Isadora Ferrao-Powell
of Bona Fide says the event is always as highlight for the band.
“I get the biggest thrill out of it as
the children now know Miss Izzy very well and I feel a bit like the Pied Piper
when they all come clamouring round to dance and sing and tell me which animal
they want to be for Old MacDonald’s farm,” she says.
Of course, the simple pleasures of the
Crescent also remain, with the ever popular fountain certain to draw its fair
share of children looking to cool off after an exhausting Easter egg hunt.
There is also an opportunity to register
for a competition to win a trip to Disney World in Orlando.
Earth Day
On Wednesday 27 April Camana Bay will celebrate
Earth Day with an Earth Day Festival to take place alongside its quarterly
evening market. The event, put together by Island Offsets and sponsored by
Camana Bay, will feature a gallery displaying artwork from recycled materials
by local artists, booths by numerous local companies featuring eco-friendly
products, as well as the Cayman Islands premiere of the film Carbon Nation. The
Central Caribbean Marine Institute will also present ocean literacy activities
for all age groups based on the theme Interconnectivity.
The event will also serve as the
introduction of Island Offsets, a local non-profit in the Cayman Islands that
will be offering individuals and businesses the opportunity to erase their
carbon footprint with local projects and thereby reduce their contribution to
climate change.
Royal Wedding
On Friday 29 April, the Royal Wedding of
HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton will be celebrated with a traditional
street party, which historically is held in Britain to commemorate momentous
events, such as VE Day or the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
The event will include all the hallmarks
of a British street party with bunting, communal tables groaning with
scrumptious food, and fun and festivities for the whole family. The wedding of
course will be taped and shown on a big outdoor screen – perfect for those not
quite dedicated enough to wake up early on this extra special day off. WH
