With weddings, like property, one can almost say that the mantra is location, location, location. In Cayman, that means being on the water. However, mix in a little bit of history, a reputation for excellent food, and of course extensive experience in hosting weddings, and you might be getting closer to the truth.

Grand Old House certainly fits the bill, with stately Caribbean great house providing just the right amount of gravitas needed for a wedding, while the undercover outdoor deck allowing wedding parties the freedom to have a wedding tailor made to their needs.

The house has a rich history to it, having served as a home, a Sunday school, a hospital and a storm shelter over the years. However, it is as a restaurant that it has found wide acclaim.

Although the venue has proven very popular with destination weddings, wedding planner Desiree Evans says the venue’s flexibility makes it especially suited to the local wedding market as well.

“We customise most packages if it is an evening wedding to fit the couple’s needs and budget,” she says.

The venue offers various wedding ceremony packages, ranging from a simple beach ceremony to an exclusive wedding, including elements like a limousine and the services of Grand Old House’s pianist. Of course these packages are not the only options, as there are endless upgrades possible, or you can start with a blank slate to create a completely unique experience.

As the venue is a very popular spot for receptions and functions of all types, there are a number of menu options for banquets, but Desiree is quick to point out that couples do not have to stick to those menus should they have something else in mind.

“For the reception we can offer the banquet menus or create a menu with the couple. We also have local menus available, and of course the dessert can be replaced with wedding cake,” says Desiree.

The multi award winning wine list is also certain to find favour with guests at the reception.

The venue can accommodate up to 500 guests for a reception, so regardless of how large or small the wedding, Desiree says Grand Old House is a perfect venue.

The air conditioned dining area can seat up to 70 guests, with the veranda available for dancing, while the water’s edge location can be extended for up to 500 guests with dining and dancing under the stars.   WH
