Some days you just have to get out of the office come lunchtime. When it is a perfect day, as is so often the case in Cayman, leaving the office to spend more time cooped up in another building might not be the most appealing option. For those days, the Green Parrot Bar and Grill at the Royal Watler cruise terminal may be just the spot.
An island bar, topped with a silver thatch palm roof, forms the centrepiece of The Green Parrot. However it is the location right on the water and in the heart of downtown that makes it a potential winner for those on their lunch break. Just cast an eye out the office window to see how many cruise ships are in port, as some days can be a bit more crowded than others. However, on most lunch hours, the ample seating around the bar itself, as well as at the counter around the perimeter of the Green Parrot. For those who would rather have a table, there are picnic tables set up around The Green Parrot as well.
The Green Parrot offers a good selection of freshly grilled dishes, perfect for a quick lunch but equally suited to someone who wants to savour the flavour of their food while enjoying the cooling breezes and the bright sunshine, from the safety of the shade of course.
For those who like their food with a bit of bite and a touch of local flavour, there is jerk chicken, while those less adventurous can try the barbecue chicken. Then there is a selection of burgers and sliders available as well, with a choice of cheeses so you can have the exact burger you have been craving all morning. Of course, no grill menu would be complete without hotdogs, for those who really need to have their lunch on the run.
Then again, if you have a moment to sit down and enjoy the day, the drinks menu is very tempting, and it is certainly difficult not to try and find a way to stretch lunch all the way up to happy hour.
It is no surprise that, at a bar and grill named for Cayman’s (famously social) National Bird, the atmosphere is always jovial, and you can be sure to meet a couple of colourful characters no matter
when you visit.
