Bartender

  Nicholas Adendorff of Karma

Karma in West Shore Centre joined the local restaurant scene in 2010 and has been garnering rave reviews ever since. With a brand new design of the space, wonderful food, and a bar/lounge area perfect for easy socialising, Karma is good luck for anyone who stops by its location in the heart of the Seven Mile strip.

When you pull up a seat to the bar, odds are good you’ll be face-to-shaker with Nicholas Adendorff, the mixologist who hails from South Africa. Nick was born in Port Elizabeth and therefore grew up surrounded by stunning scenery. He completed his four-year business degree, and at the same time earned a casual income first as a server and then as a bartender on a part-time basis. In the warmer seasons he worked at bars on the beach, meeting tourists from all over the world and learning the skills of the trade. When it got colder he would bartend at a steakhouse with a group of friends. By the time he had finished his degree, Nick realised it was time to stretch his wings.

He already had people he knew living and working in the Cayman Islands, and so he booked his ticket and flew halfway across the globe to visit them. Once he arrived it didn’t take him very long to know that this was somewhere he wanted to tarry for a while. He got a job at Mezza and stayed there for three years where he built up a loyal following of regulars, but when management changed and he was offered the opportunity to be part of a brand new venture he jumped at the chance. He couldn’t resist the idea of opening a new place with a staff all starting at the same time. That place was Karma.

A year later he is still really enjoying his job and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. The team works together well and even when it is very busy, they all step up to the plate and manage to have fun with it. Karma is certainly one of the hotspots where you want to be throughout the week. They offer a Happy Hour Mon-Fri from 4pm to 7pm with drink specials galore, and an amazing Wednesday 8pm to 11pm 2-for-1 martinis deal with wonderful tapas. When asked for his favourite dish on the menu, Nick has to admit that he has a weakness for the Pad Thai. He’s not the only one; as far as many are concerned, it’s the best they’ve tasted…internationally.

If you’re looking for marvellous food and a relaxing bar where you can kick back and drink in the atmosphere (not to mention the perfectly mixed beverages) look no further than Karma. Nick will be there to greet you and shake up your perfect poison. Once you’ve tasted his good Karma, I guarantee you’ll be back for more.

Karma is located in West Shore Centre on West Bay Road.
