It’s not often that cats and dogs can be mentioned in the same sentence without a bit of an incident ensuing. So for the sake of keeping the peace, let’s just call it a dogwalk, and not a catwalk, for the time being, because it is time for the annual Humane Society fashion show again.
According to Jackie Stirling of the Humane Society, the event started out on a much smaller scale, as a ladies’ lunchtime affair at which the finer gently used items that had been donated to the Humane Society Thrift Shop were modelled by volunteers and then sold. However, from its humble beginnings the event has blossomed into one of the main fundraising events for the society.
The event has become an annual tradition over the past decade, with this year’s event being titled Doggywood – Fashion Unleashed!
It will take place at the Ritz-Carlton on Friday, 30 September. The evening starts at 6.30pm with live music, cash bar, and a delicious buffet. The fashion show will be coordinated by Donna Myrie and hosted by the always entertaining Vicki Wheaton, with gorgeous models parading fabulous clothing, showcasing the various fashions available at on-island boutiques.
The show also stars a handpicked group of shelter dogs that have made their way through the shelter’s beach training programme and have already started rehearsing for the big night. They will also be dressed to the nines as they strut their stuff on the cat... oops, dogwalk.
There will be a silent auction including lots of fashion accessories and the Doggywood Boutique will be filled with clothing from the fashion show as well as a large selection of “gently used” designer label items, available at a steal. All proceeds go to help the shelter dogs and cats.
Tickets for the event are available for $100 per person and includes dinner as well as an evening of entertainment to roll over and play dead for, all for a very good cause. WH
