With the Cayman community including people from such diverse backgrounds, there are numerous traditional Christmas desserts around. However, the one that might be truest to the Cayman Islands has to be a rum cake. And there is no more famous rum cake than a Tortuga rum cake.

According to Barnaby Richardson of Tortuga, there is no more perfect way of enjoying it than heating the cake for a couple of minutes, scooping a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream in the middle and serving.

This is certain to bring a taste of Cayman to any Christmas feast, whether on Island or elsewhere in the world. For those looking for the perfect island gift to send to family members and friends overseas, a rum cake can give you a presence at the family Christmas table, even if you cannot be there in person.

And of course the warm tropical flavours of the cake will make everyone ever so subtly jealous that they cannot spend their Christmas in the Caymans Islands. Tortuga also has gift baskets comprising not only the famous rum cake, but also samples of their Blue Mountain coffees, Scotch Bonnet pepper sauces, the ever popular chocolate truffles, and even some new additions to the range including chocolate turtles with sea salt.

Yet Tortuga is about much more than just the famous rum cakes and with New Year’s Eve parties to think about, the company has a wide selection of products for which it is the distributor in the Cayman Islands. From the number one selling champagne in France, Nicolas Feuillatte, to Armand de Brignac (the famous Ace of Spades), which was judged as the best Champagne in a blind tasting of 1,000 champagne brands by FINE Champagne Magazine in 2009, there is with which to celebrate the start of 2012 in style.

When it comes to cocktails and shots, the company is also the distributor of Amarula Cream Liquor, a unique drink from Africa that has moved up to become the second best selling cream liquor, as well as the ubiquitous Jagermeister, with casual observation indicating that Cayman may well have the biggest per capita consumption of Jager in the world.
