A new look for an old favourite

Back in 1986, the first BlackBeard’s liquor store opened in Cayman as a family run business. Over the years the range of products have expanded from the original blended rum to include rum cakes and various other products aimed at giving a true taste of the islands. Now as part of celebrating 25 years in the business, the packaging of the rum cakes, rums and other spirits have been brought right up to date with a fresh new design. The new design still pays homage to the legendary pirate for whom the brand is named, but the unique look sets it apart from other similar products out there, making sure no one will mistake a BlackBeard’s rum cake for a competitor’s product.

Don’t fret though, the packaging may have changed, but the contents have remained the same, still following the recipes laid down when the company was started.

The rums are still blended and bottled right here in Grand Cayman, with a range of rums including white rum, gold rum, dark rum, overproof 151, as well as flavoured rums with tropical tastes including banana, coconut and spiced.

Although rum might not be to everyone’s taste, I am yet to meet someone who does not like a good rum cake. BlackBeard’s rum cakes are still baked using the same local recipe that made them popular when they were launched all those years ago, but the range now includes a selection of flavours that would have been hard to imagine 25 years ago. Of course the original rum cake is still very popular, it has over the years been joined by traditional, coconut, banana, chocolate, pina colada and hurricane – more than enough to send your New Year’s resolutions to an early demise. Of course, all the cakes benefit from a generous helping of BlackBeard’s own rums during the preparation process to give it the authentic island flavour.

Part of the Cayman Distributors Group, BlackBeard’s boasts three locations across Grand Cayman, at Grand Harbour, The Strand and Seven Mile Shops. BlackBeard’s products are also available in many retail outlets in the Cayman Islands.
