There is some irony to Valentine’s Day being celebrated with chocolates and other decadent treats only a couple of weeks into the year. This can often deal a death blow to those already wavering New Year’s resolutions on eating right and staying healthy. Flowers are fleeting, chocolates a little bit less so as it can linger on the hips longer than the lips, but for a Valentine’s Day gift that has more permanence, nothing can match fine jewellery. Can it really be February already? It only seems like a few months ago that there were red hearts as far as the eye could see and restaurants were gearing up for one of the biggest nights of the year. Few days on the calendar call for a bit of sparkle to the same extent as
Valentine’s Day. However diamonds and fine jewellery are far from the
only way to add that sparkle. In fact, few things can be as romantic as a
glass of champagne, whether as part of a dinner for two or a sunset
toast to time spent together. Romance is in the air, and so is spring, for that matter. Well, at least in the world of fashion. Anyone that ever said “Relationships are supposed to be easy” was
probably single. Relationships are a process. In the early days when you
first meet that special someone you are getting to know each other. You
may feel endless amounts of energy, can’t see enough of that person,
and never run out of things to say to each other. For most couples, the ultimate romantic getaway would be escaping to a tropical island paradise – just the two of you. For those of us fortunate enough to live in said paradise 365 days a year, the idea of a romantic getaway need not involve packing a passport – just a slight change of scenery can certainly do the trick. Gift giving on Valentine’s Day can be a minefield. Of course, for those
in a happy, stable relationships it could be less dangerous territory,
but then again, if you want the relationship to stay happy, putting a
little bit of thought into your gift might be a good idea. However, in
spite of what many would like you to believe, you don’t have to spend
obscene amounts of money on Valentine’s Day gifts. Romantic mixes
February 01, 2011 Whether it be in the colour or the unique coming together of a rare combination of ingredients, there are many romantic cocktail ideas out there. I find it interesting that each year I’m asked to write a Valentine’s
Day article for What’s Hot. I have been single for quite some time and
any tokens I’ve handed out over the years on February 14th have been
greeted with emotions running the gamut from laughter to outright
terror. I think either my editor has a sense of humor, or enjoys pouring
salt into the wound. But who am I to moan? Thusly I pull on my red
knickers and brace myself once more for The Big Day. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner folks, where men shiver in
their boots wondering how they’ll get it wrong this year and restaurants
prepare to be the ones having something handed to them on a plate as
the reservation books fill to brimmin’ level. Once upon a time the only cooking men would do involved a fire, half an
ox and the great outdoors. Yet modern man has evolved, to a point where we occasionally venture
into the kitchen – and not just to get a beer from the fridge.
